From: "Matt Bernius, EKC" Subject: Announcement: Features of DC260 Firmware Upgrade Date: Sat, 01 Aug 1998 11:08:16 -0400 Organization: D&AI, Eastman Kodak Co. Newsgroups: rec.photo.digital Hi all, There have been a number of questions floating around about what will be in the first firmware release for the DC260. The new firmware will be coming very soon and we thought the best thing we could do is end the speculation and let you be the first to know what is in it. Here is a listing of major features of the soon to be released of firmware: -> Improved power up time in all modes (2-3 seconds) - This one was the number four requested thing on the DC260 wish list (http://www.trix.com/dc260/top-10.html) -> Immediate Lens retraction when you shut the camera off, even if the camera is still processing - A number of people on the group have requested this one. -> The lens will no longer extend when you power up in review and Info modes - This one was number five on the wish list (http://www.trix.com/dc260/top-10.html) -> Connectivity improvements for USB - This should help solve the problems that some folks on the group have been having -> Burst Capture Enhancements -> Enhanced Long Time Exposure Mode This is our first firmware release. And it will most likely not be our last. We are committed to supporting the Kodak Digital Camera owners out there, whether they have a DC20 or a DC260. It’s something that we have been committed to ever since we began in this business. We are always working on new cameras (that’s the way the industry goes). But we’re also improving and supporting our current camera owners. Kodak wants to make sure everyone who buys our cameras have the best experience possible. We tried to include as many requests as possible in this upgrade. There are requested features that people feel very strongly about that are not in this firmware. If something that you want isn't in there, it's not because we forgot about it. When creating firmware we have to balance what we'd like to do, with how long it will take. If we were to try and incorporate everything you wouldn't get an upgrade for months. Once this upgrade is up we will begin work on the next one. I know that there is often a feeling that corporations are not listening to the Usenet groups. I can assure you that Kodak is. Your feedback (as I have written a number of times before) is very important to us. People here constantly check on the group. But it often takes time to respond. Sometimes you ask questions that we don’t know immediately know the answers for. And I often get busy with my "other job" as a web developer and can’t devote my full attention to the group. But we are listening and we’ll try to answer as many questions, as quickly as possible. If you don’t immediately get an answer to your questions, you can always contact us through our guestbook (http://www.kodak.com/cgi-bin/webGuestBook.pl) with questions and comments as well. Raising an issue on this forum is a good idea, but make sure that we get that message and drop us a note. So if you see a feature that isn’t in the firmware that you feel is very important spend a few moments and e-mail (in the guestbook, not my personal account). Please keep up the comments, suggestions, heck, even the flames, because you’re helping us learn.
